Scotland-based medical device company, Vascutek, has announced it will merge with its sister company, Bolton Medical, into a single business.
The decision was announced in an effort to grow Vascutek’s presence in the global aortic and vascular implants market.
The new business will be known as Terumo Aortic and aims to become recognised for individual treatments that offer clinicians a wide range of options.
The two companies have been working together for the past year towards streamlining their business offerings. In particular, the companies have been creating an integrated research and innovation strategy for the aortic and vascular implants market.
Through the merger, Terumo Aortic will offer advanced technologies such as surgical grafts for abdominal, cardiothoracic and peripheral applications as well as hybrid and catheter-based stent graft systems for abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms.
The company will have over 1,100 employees worldwide, with its primary research and manufacturing facilities remaining in Glasgow, Scotland and Sunrise, Florida.
Paul Holbrook, president of Terumo Aortic, said: "This coming together of two organisations with highly advanced technologies will be transformative for physicians and the patients they serve."
"We have woven together the products, services and expertise offered by our teams in Scotland and the United States, enabling clinicians to meet the unique needs of their patients and redefine the treatment of aortic disease."
