US-based Medline and Ostoform, an Ireland-based start-up, have partnered for the commercialisation of a range of ostomy barrier rings in the US. Medline will distribute the Ostoform product range across the continuum of care.
In recognition of the need to improve skin health and quality of life for people who have ostomy, EIT Health-backed Ostoform has developed a device to help direct the flow of stoma output away from the skin and into the ostomy pouch, ensuring that the skin stays healthy.
With three clinical studies successfully demonstrating the product’s effectiveness, a US reimbursement code assigned, and FDA registration complete, the patented Ostoform Seal with FlowAssist Protection is now available in the United States.
According to Ostoform’s CEO Kevin Kelleher, the product will soon be in the hands of those who need it most.
He said: “Often, if a person has a stoma, corrosive output flows onto their skin, causing skin complications that can have a major impact on quality of life.
“Ostoform’s goal is to improve the lives of ostomates across the globe by understanding and solving their unmet needs. Our first product addresses one of the most common problems amongst this population, and we are delighted to partner with Medline in the US so that we can get our solution to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.”
