UK based manufacturer Sterimedix is showcasing its development of ophthalmic and aesthetic cannulas at this year’s Arab Health as part of its continued expansion into international markets.
The range of single-use cannulas has had global success due to Sterimedix’ ability to combine the latest technology with quality manufacturing standards, maintained across high volume production. In the last 10 years alone, Sterimedix has produced over 100 million devices.
Established over 30 years ago on the premise that single-use instruments could minimise the risk of bioburden transfer, the company began making surgical products for eye surgery. To this day Sterimedix is the only European manufacturer of cannulas for ophthalmic use.
In the early 2000s, as the demand for injectable implants grew, the company began producing single-use flexible aesthetic cannulas and sharp needles. These were launched under the brand name of Silkann and used for the injection of aesthetic dermal fillers.
As the cannula market continues to evolve Sterimedix is currently seeing a rise in interest for orthopaedic applications, where advances are being made to deliver quality-of-life improvement for many patients.
The company produces millions of single-use instruments at its facility in Redditch, UK. These are manufactured using a combination of precision hand skills and automated machinery. This focus on quality, matched with the ability to produce at high volume, has been a key factor in the company’s global success. Products are then supplied through a worldwide network of distributors, pharmaceutical companies and kit packers, producing treatment procedure packs.
Sterimedix will be located on the Medilink UK Pavilion where a team of specialists will be available to share information on the Sterimedix range and discuss industry developments. The company is keen to identify opportunities for cooperation within the single-use cannula industry, including in the emerging area of orthopaedic applications.
