OPCI
Justin Green and Mike Reed, two orthopaedic surgeons in the North East of England have launched a new MedTech company called OPCI (Open Predictor Clinical Intelligence), after developing machine learning tool OpenPredictor. OpenPredictor predicts patients risk of post-operative complications to support clinician decision making.
The surgeons spent the last few years training and testing the tool in the NHS, and have now founded OPCI with the goal of implementing the software in hospitals and developing further predictive software to support healthcare professionals.
OpenPredictor is currently being piloted in two hospital trusts in South Wales. The company has secured 600,000 GBP in funding to support the new implementation projects and the further software developnment.
Green said: "As an NHS surgeon, I've seen that there are huge potential benefits for healthcare in the application of machine learning."
"We believe that through responsible development, and strong collaboration with healthcare professionals, we can realise this potential and have a real impact on surgery waiting lists, patient care, and health outcomes."
