RwHealth, the AI healthcare partner, has partnered with an NHS Foundation Trust to deliver an AI-led patient discharge programme, ahead of predicted winter bed shortages.
The programme, which aims to showcase how data and technology has the power to help hospitals create bed capacity with AI and data analytics, saw improvements in operational performance for the Trust, including a significant 42% overall increased discharge rate.
In total, 586 patients were discharged across all three of the Trust's sites over the course of one week. RwHealth helped one of its hospitals to discharge 174 more patients than it would have done the previous week and furthermore was responsible for discharging 57% more patients than normal on behalf of one of the Trust’s mental health facilities.
The exercise set out to showcase, across multiple working hospitals, how technology has the power to help hospitals create bed capacity with RwHealth's AI, data analytics, patient discovery tools and multi-agency discharge programme. Ensuring that patients were appropriately discharged was a top priority, with patient engagement and wellbeing at the forefront of the scheme.
RwHealth's CEO and founder, Orlando Agrippa says: “The use of deep insight, data, predictive, intuitive technology is particularly important moving into winter as our healthcare system encounters increased cases of COVID and other respiratory conditions, not to mention high rates of backlogs for diseases such as cancer.
“We believe that AI technology has the capabilities to help combat these problems, freeing up beds for the patients who need it most this winter, while improving patient flow, boosting workforce productivity, and reducing A&E waiting times.”
